Introduction

Sanskrit is one of the oldest language known to us. It is also believed to be the most systematic and technical language of all. It is also referred to as the mother of all languages and is the only language that is used in holy functions and ceremonies of the Hindus, as it has always been regarded as the sacred language of the religion. When recited in combination with the sound vibrations, Sanskrit mantras have a specific effect on the mind and the psyche of the individual.

Sanskrit was considered as ‘DEV BHASHA’ or ‘DEVAVANI’, the Language of the Gods by ancient Indians. The script is called DEVNAGARI which means used in the cities of the Gods. The god Brahma believed to have been generated who passed it to the Rishis (sages) living in celestial abodes, who then communicated the same to their earthly disciples from where it spread on earth.

Sanskrit has also been proven to help in speech therapy. Research suggests that learning the language improves brain functioning and students improve academically; they get better marks in subjects like Mathematics and Science which some people find difficult. It is because Sanskrit enhances memory power and concentration.

The best resources for learning any language is speaking and listening to the language as much as possible.

1.Find an Online Tutor to Speak every day

If you just want to improve your Sanskrit fluency, my recommendation would be to focus on this method. The fact of the matter is that having an online tutor will increase your results compared to time spent in an actual classroom.

This is because a classroom environment is focused on teaching several students all at once. With this, you will have only a couple of speaking interactions in one class sitting.

But during an online tutoring session 100% of focussing is only on you and you are the reason for the class and you can ask how many questions you can.

By having a good Sanskrit tutor without any doubt you will be able to get Sanskrit fluency in less than a years’ time.

2.Use Language Exchanges to Speak to Native Speakers

Language exchanges are another excellent way to learn Sanskrit. You can speak with someone from Spain or from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection, where you will get some amazing friends from all over the world.

Find a native Sanskrit speaker, then ask as “let’s spend the first 30 minutes speaking in English and the next 30 minutes speaking in Sanskrit.” This time can vary, but the main part is you are meeting some new friends around the world.

3.Use a Flashcard App 

Flashcards are the perfect way to learn vocabulary, where there is a huge number of good flashcard apps that you can use right from your cell phone.

But you should make sure to use a flashcard app that incorporates space repetition software, without using any old flashcards

Anki is a great app for this, as they will allow you to choose the flashcards you do and don’t understand and the app stores the flashcard away for a month or two later. This app has public flashcards that you can download directly to your phone and start using right away, which is the best part of it

4.Read online Books in Sanskrit

This one will be difficult when early on studying, but if you are interested in reading, this is a great method for you. With the Narnia series, you can understand every word and you will enjoy it.

Lookup with the common words that kept coming up when you are reading. For example “enano” meant dwarf in Sanskrit.

Pick out your favorite book online and do the Sanskrit translation.

5.Join an Online Sanskrit Membership to Improve Grammar and Pronunciation

If you struggle with staying focused, being consistent, and most importantly, improving your weak areas, the best part will be joining with a good online Sanskrit course or membership. 

You will get motivated by a bunch of random YouTube videos, a few Sanskrit grammar books, and you can try speaking Sanskrit with whoever would give me the time of day.
