Can we learn Chinese without going to classes?
Of the many languages in the world, Chinese is a language that is a part of the most difficult languages with Chinese, Korean and Arabic. The statement may be inaccurate, but it doesn’t mean that Chinese it is impossible to learn. Other languages are easier to learn, but learning a language takes more time, effort, and dedication. As long as you’re willing to put in the time and effort, learning a language that offers a variety of wonderful benefits isn’t so difficult.
Let's see how you can learn Chinese without attending classes:
Before you think about learning Chinese without going to classes, I wish all learners to internalise that, without going to classes you can only achieve limited learning! To enhance your studies and go to the next level of learning, you definitely need to be with a live trainer who can help you pronounce the words, speak phrases, and talk in small simple but meaningful conversations. Apart from this, the educators help you learn the sounds of the Chinese alphabet. Another major part of learning that’s ruled out is the writing of the Chinese alphabet!
Please know that writing is ruled out when you are learning on your own without going to classes! When in class your teacher trainer helps you write the Chinese alphabet in a block and explains to you why they are written the way they are written and how they are pronounced. So, basically, all the methods of self-study will only help you speak a bit of Chinese! No reading! No writing!
Having said that, let’s move ahead to explain how you can learn Chinese on your own. There are two ways of mastering Chinese without attending classes:
1- Self-Learning:
Self-study is an excellent method for studying Chinese. But, studying Chinese, a language that is considered tough to learn, on your own is not going to be easy!
- You’ll have to put in a lot of time and work, but it’s not difficult to master in the end.
- To begin, make a detailed strategy and stick to it. You should also create goals that are realistic and sensible.
- Second, you should concentrate on understanding the fundamentals.
- Building a solid foundation will benefit you in the long term.
- You should also employ ‘fun factor’ and smart techniques, such as listening to Chinese music, viewing YouTube videos or C-dramas, and so on.
- Practice consistently all that you’ve learnt on a daily basis.
- I also recommend you engage in conversation with other Chinese students. You’ll be able to enhance your speaking abilities and identify areas where you need to improve this way.
2- Immersion Method:
Any language can be best learnt through immersion, which is the most difficult but most effective method of learning a new language.
- It is also referred to as the most natural way to learn a language because of its simplicity.
- A person who uses the immersion method, ‘immerses’ themselves in the foreign language of their choice.
- Immersion is the process of learning that requires one to travel to a country that speaks your target language and live there, where they learn the native tongue from the locals by staying with them.
- A learner effectively learns their colloquial speech and mannerisms by conversing with them day in and day out, morning to night.
- In essence, you learn the language in the most authentic way possible, which is through immersion.
- In our case, it’s China, where people speak Chinese as their first language. In this manner, not only is it possible to learn the language authentically, but it is also possible to learn about the country’s culture and diversity.
- As a result, it is one of the most effective ways to learn a new language.
- Having said that, the only other drawback that deters people is the cost involved! Immersion can be quite expensive and difficult to do.
Finally,
The Chinese language is spoken by more than 1.2 billion people around the world. Ancient Chinese oracle bone inscriptions from the Shang dynasty date back to 1250 BCE, making them the world’s oldest written documents. Because Standard Chinese is based on a dialect of Mandarin that originated in Beijing, it is recognised as an official language by the PRC and Taiwan, as well as Singapore, the United Nations, and other international organisations.
