Many Russian learners have a query regarding how to improve their Russian writing skills. For this, I would suggest that they should follow some simple techniques to learn and improve their Russian writing skills. In this blog, I will discuss some techniques that will be beneficial for Russian language learners who are struggling with Russian writing skills.

• First of all, I will give you an idea regarding the Russian alphabets

Many people feel that Russian is a difficult language as the Russians write differently! The Russians use Cyrillic alphabets for writing. The letters of the Cyrillic alphabet look different from the English letters. The Cyrillic alphabet is used by more than 50 languages globally, including the Russian language. This means the first step that you have to follow to learn Russian writing is Cyrillic. The Cyrillic alphabet has thirty-three letters, ten vowels, and twenty-one consonants, and there are two more that have no sound. It can be written in lowercase, capitals, and Cyrillic cursive. The vowel indicates whether the preceding consonant is soft or hard. The main thing is learning Cyrillic is not always a cakewalk.

Here, I want to give you some advice about how you can overcome the difficulties of the Cyrillic script and improve your Russian writing skills. 

• You need to learn to produce the letters yourself

When you are learning foreign letters, you need to listen to the letters said aloud and write them down in your memory. This is a very tricky way to learn how to write Russian letters. You have to form the letters in your mind and write them without any reference set in front of you. This will surely improve your Russian writing skills.

• Try to divide the letters and learn part by part

There are some letters that look familiar to English, they are A, O, Y, E, K, M, O, T. Start with these first as they are friendly letters, it will be easier for you to learn them first. Then move to the next set. This set of letters have sounds that are familiar to the English speakers but are represented by unfamiliar characters. These are Б, Г, Д, Ш, З, Ф, П, Л, Э, Ч, И and Ю. Once you learn these characters, they will also become familiar to you. Then come to the letters that both look and sound odd for the English speakers. The letters are Ё, Ж, Й, Щ, Ц, Я, Ь, Ъ, and Ы. You need to memorize these letters. Then learn the tricky letters. These are B, H, P, C, Y, X. 

• To learn the Russian letters, it will be really helpful if you become a kid again

To learn the Russian letters, try to follow the same way you did for learning the English letters. Pick up a children’s alphabet book, a children’s alphabet poster to learn the Russian alphabet and their pronunciations. Learn the Russian alphabet songs just like you did for English. • Form basic words with the letters

Form basic words with the letters just like you did while learning English. It will become easier for you to get acquainted with the letters easily in this way.

• You can practice writing by copying text from Russian books for more improvement

Russian words contain a combination of lots of hard consonant combinations and even letters that are very difficult to pronounce. You can copy text from Russian books, blogs, magazines, and other sources to familiarize yourself with proper Russian spelling.

• Practice regularly

The ultimate method of improvising your Russian writing skills lies in the effort you are giving towards practicing. You need to find out different and fun methods to practice and that is the key to master the skills.
