The Chinese Language is established by the Council of Europe to validate foreign language ability. There is an assessment framework within which many language tests function when pinpointing the scores to corresponding proficiency levels.

Basic level
There are two levels in the basic language A1 and A2. At the A1 level, you will be able to understand and use simple words and phrases and at the A2 level, you will be able to communicate simply and directly on daily topics you are familiar with by using simple sentences. You will not learn too much with grammar and stuff. You can have a conversation with basic greetings such as greetings, introducing yourself, or doing small talk. Approximately you will learn 150 words, you will get more accustomed to the sounds and tones of Mandarin.
You can talk about yourself, your family by using very simple words and sentence structure. The communication in this stage will be slow and it is based on repetition, rephrasing and repair. There are two test levels in HSK 1 and HSK 2.
Intermediate
At this level, You will be able to conduct basic communication in daily life, study and work. You can manage most of your communication when travelling to China. You can also learn a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and can have a conversation with native Chinese speakers fluently in all situations. This stage will have an Upper-Intermediate level.
You have actually expanded your vocabulary from simple pointing and naming things and it can be asking directions on streets, getting directions from taxi drivers, ordering food and drinks in hotels, talking with friends by using simple language. you will start feeling the progress of learning.
Even if you are not perfect in your conversation you will use Mandarin in your speech. Your vocabulary will meet all your needs when you are speaking with familiar matters and points of personal interest. Your speech resembles a developed person such that you can express your desires, reasons and your ideas. In addition, you will also begin to understand the native Chinese speakers much better. You can deal with it when travelling in China. There are two test levels in HSK 3 and HSK 4.
Advanced level
You will be able to read Chinese newspapers and magazines, watch Chinese films and TVs, like news stories that you are familiar with or your favourite books from childhood that are translated into Mandarin and can write and deliver a full speech. You can easily understand what you read and hear and can express yourself in written or oral Chinese. You will be proficient in this level.
You will start to give reasoning, logical and coherent explanations to things and you will be more comfortable writing things in Chinese. You will start to get familiar with the vocabulary that meets your personal circle of interests. You can give a clear and fluent speech. You will feel at ease with the aspects of Mandarin in personal or professional settings. There are two test levels in HSK 5 and HSK 6.
