What is the best way to learn how to draw?
The best way to draw should be just the way how a child does it! That’s the simplest way to answer such a question. A child has no aspirations for the future or no expectation from himself, he draws because it gives him joy and thus, he lives in the moment. Alas! Adulthood robs us of this beauty of living. Cut to reality- Pandemic has opened our eyes in past one year where we have started valuing our life like never before. In social media too, knowing and then honing a skill – have become the latest trend and thankfully it is growing in leaps and bounds. Over the internet there are thousands of online sites which are teaching us skills (read-long lost love) which we forgot in our fast-paced life. One of them is of course the love for drawing. None of us can ignore how we used to make random pictures as kids and play with colours and make ourselves dirty. Not all of us have become artists but yes given a chance we would love to draw and if today is the time when you are thinking of picking up the skill of drawing, let me suggest you few ways.
How to go about it? How to start?
As I mentioned earlier start like a child, take a piece of paper and start drawing random figures in order to check whether you have it in you. At the end of the day, it should not become one of those flings where you want to go on a date however you won’t commit for marriage.
Skillshare is one of those sites where you can get free guidelines from experts to start drawing. You may also start buying second hand books for drawing from where you can learn how to do shading.
Udemy– This is an online platform from where you can get experts to teach your daughter art at her own pace. If you are not sure of committing certain amount then you may also follow few free sessions or videos and check whether she is able to pick up or not. Though I must say every trainer has his or own style of teaching- a video is not a tool for judging the trainer!
One good part about drawing is that it is not like learning martial arts or speaking in Arabic! drawing is an achievable skill which can be completely self-taught and thanks to YouTube! There are thousands of videos on this subject. I have a few friends who have learnt drawing completely on their own. However, the key to success is to give devoted time and energy as you must have known that if we put our attention onto something, it grows and drawing is no different!
Taking it seriously.
Multibhashi and drawing- After continuing for few days if you feel you are ready to learn the skill of drawing on a professional level, then you must think of hiring a personal trainer. It is a great boon for introvert people (like me) who have it in them, but they don’t want a group session. Multibhashi has a host of professional trainers from whom you can take personal or group sessions. In fact, Multibhashi also designs certain material depending on your needs and those lessons stay with you forever. There is also an option of taking a demo of your chosen trainer, so that you can judge whether he or see can understand your plus points and your points of improvements and what kind of measure he or she is planning to apply.
To sum up!
I am an avid reader and whatever humble amount of reading regarding drawing that I have done so far makes it crystal clear that ‘repetition’ is the key. In fact, few experts suggest that if you aspire to become a photographer or a cinematographer in future drawing can really open your mind towards the whole trajectory of images that you want to capture. Just like carrying a pocket dictionary is a great idea to learn new words, similarly keeping a sketchbook is a wonderful idea. During the break-hours instead of scrolling through your mobile, start sketching the picture of your favourite coffee table. In a few days you will not only grab eyeballs but also feel absolutely recharged at the end of a tiring day.
