Why are high school Telugu classes so terrible?
Telugu is a Dravidian language spoken by Telugu people where it is also the official language, living in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It stands along with the Hindi and Bengali languages as it is the official language in more than one Indian state.
Here are the reasons that Why high school Telugu classes are so terrible
Schools are trying to force their students to take a language. The whole curriculum will be outdated. The Telugu books are old and they use vocabulary that you do not even need in real life. You will sometimes learn vocabulary which is about instant messaging which is pretty useless nowadays. These language classes are not emphasizing everyday and they are not focusing on speaking and listening, which are the most useful and important aspects of learning a language.
By giving a lot of tests and assignments, expectations to get good grades in high school can lead to a lot of stress and frustration for the students. As students progress through high school, grades become more important especially for higher students when they are ready to go on to college. As a way to make college applications stand out, taking part in extracurriculars during high school is emphasized. These activities mean students have less time for homework and studying.
If the teachers were speaking only in Telugu, many of the students in the class wouldn’t care and they would fail. But none of the teachers wants their students to fail because they are responsible and it may reflect badly on them. This is not specific to Telugu, this problem happens to all the languages. Learning a language will be a very hard process and if you are not dedicated then it happens. It is hard to learn a new language when you are in high school with class one hour a day and five days a week.
They also assume that learning Telugu was really hard and they did not want to over-stress themselves. Some teachers did not require their students to actually speak in Telugu, which would be too hard or stressful.
If the classes are not engaging and relevant then it will be so bad to give them a lesson in teaching. In some high schools, teachers lack in the management of teaching, they have no skills in teaching, being a professor to give others tutoring. They do not treat high school kids like they are 12 by having some cutesy pictures and childish books and they are not mature enough.
Some of the Telugu lessons are not well made. This is a highly controversial point, as the school system of language learning does not work very well. Basically, the Telugu language teachers want you to learn all the forms of conjugations of irregular verbs first and in fact, you should be diving straight into sentences.
