Malayalam has several hills stations; no wonder its name itself is a combination of two words Mala meaning mountain and location meaning Alam. An inscription called ‘vazhappalli’ from 830 A.D. is considered to be the oldest written historic evidence found for the Malayalam language. A language poetic in nature is the only language known to be a palindrome.
Let’s now see why Malayalam is so famous.
Malayalam is a pretty complex south Indian language. Therefore mastering Malayalam essentially means that you are capable of mastering a lot of other complex languages. Is also widely spoken in Kerala. Kerala, which is known to be the most educated state in the entirety of the Indian country, will definitely appreciate anybody trying to learn their language. The language of Malayalam is also accompanied by the beautiful culture followed in Kerala. One of the major reasons why many people learn a new language is because learning a new language is the equivalent of taking a dive into the culture of the people who speak the language.
For example, when you learn French, you understand how the French people live just through the language. Or maybe when you learn Spanish, you get a little taste of what it’s like living in Spain. Languages or a gateway to the culture of the people who speak it and to the land where it is spoken. Many languages are spoken in multiple different countries and by multiple different people.
Hence, learning a single language can actually open up doors for you to experience the culture of many different countries. Similarly learning Malayalam will help you experience the culture that is enjoyed by those who not only speak the language but also live in Kerala. Additionally, this language is automatically important and famous among those who wish to travel to Kerala, wish to complete higher education there or who wish to work in Kerala.
You definitely cannot live in a completely new state or country without being able to speak their language. It will be very difficult for you to be able to survive there. Therefore, if you plan on moving to Kerala for any reason, including visiting there, maybe even for a summer, I still suggest learning a little bit of Malayalam before going there. Malayalam is also very famous among people who enjoy Malayalam movies, drama and music. Learning the language will obviously make it much easier for you to enjoy the entertainment industry of the said language. For example, in order to truly enjoy French movies, it is always better that you learn a little bit of French to understand it well. Similarly, in order to truly enjoy Malayalam movies, music and drama, I strongly suggest learning the language. This will enable you to enjoy the Malayalam entertainment industry as a true native would.
Finally,
Just like other languages, Malayalam uses some terms found in languages, such as Sanskrit, Portuguese, and Tamil, etc. Alternatively, other languages are also using terms they borrowed from the Malayalam language such as the Bahasa Malaysia or what’s better known as the Malay language. It has speakers not only in Kerela but also in its neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Puducherry besides the Lakshadweep Islands, Malayalam is spoken.
