NEW DELHI: Counting of votes for assembly election results is underway in five states
In the multi-phase polling, Chhattisgarh voted on November 12 (18 seats) and November 20 (72 seats); Madhya Pradesh (230 seats) and Mizoram (40 seats) on November 28; and Rajasthan (199 seats) and Telangana (119 seats) on December 7. Here are the key highlights:
* Chhattisgarh: Congress candidate Kawasi Lakhma elected from Konta (ST) constituency by a margin of more than 6,790 votes. IAS turned politician OP Choudhary got defeated in Kharsia constituency by Congress rival Umesh Patel. Former CM Ajit Jogi’s daughter-in-law is leading by 1,038 votes in Akaltara constituency.
* Trends at 5pm: In Rajasthan Congress is leading on 104, BJP: 71, Others: 19, BSP: 6. In MP, Congress is 117, BJP is 103, Others is seven and BSP is at three. In Chattisgarh, Congress is at 63, BJP is at 18 and BSP at 9.
* Rajasthan: Incumbent CM Vasundhara Raje, former CM Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Congress chief wins.
* Rajasthan: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), president, Chaudhary Ajit Singh has extended his support to Congress. RLD is leading in Bharatpur constituency where its MLA is Dr Subhas Garg.
* Mizoram: The Mizo National Front (MNF) emerged victorious, bagging 24 seats out of the 40 member assembly. The Congress which was eyeing a third consecutive term won on five seats and BJP could secure only one seat.The Independents won on five seats and are leading in three.
* Telangana: TRS to form government in Telangana. The party has a hold on 86 seats including the seats it won on and the seats it is leading on. Party chief K Chandrsekhar Rao, who won from Gajwel constituency by over 50,000 votes, is at the party headquarters attending meeting with the workers. TRS will form its second successive government in the state.
* The BJP headquarters in Delhi wore a relatively deserted look on Tuesday. On the other hand, Congress workers celebrated their party’s good show in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh at its headquarters in Delhi.
* Trends at 4pm: In Rajasthan, Congress is leading on 98 seats, BJP leading on 65 seats, BSP on 5, CPM on 2 and others on 16 seats. In Madhya Pradesh, Congress leading on 112 seats, BJP leading on 108 seats, BSP on 4. In Chhattisgarh, Congress leading in 14 out of 20 seats in Raipur division.
* Madhya Pradesh: CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan leading by 3,7500 votes from Budhni constituency.
* Madhya Pradesh: According to the EC trends, Congress is leading on 112 seats while BJP is leading on 108 seats. BSP is leading on 4 seats in the state.
* Trends at 3 pm: It is a close fight in Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is slightly ahead of Congress,
In Rajasthan, Congress is ahead of the BJP and senior leader Ashok Gehlot is leading on Sardarpura constituency after 15th round of vote counting. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is leading much ahead of the rival BJP, according to the trends. TRS, MNF are heading for a clear win in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively.
* Samajwadi Party is leading by 15,000 votes in Bijawar, Madhya Pradesh. BJP and Congress are in a close fight in the state.
* In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is ahead of the Congress with 111 seats while Congress has 108, so far. The BSP has got 5 seats and other parties have 6.
* In Chhattisgarh, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece Karuna Shukla from the Congress trailing behind chief minister Raman Singh in Rajnandgaon cosntituency.
* Telangana: TRS president and Telangana caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wins from Gajwel constituency by over 50,000 votes.
* Telangana: AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi won with 80,212 votes from Chandrayangutta seat.
* Chhattisgarh: Congress is leading on all the 12 seats of Bastar division.
* Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh is leading by a margin of 3,120 votes in Rajnandgaon constituency while Congress is taking a lead in the state. Former CM Ajit Jogi is leading in Marwahi seat while his wife Renu Jogi is ahead in Kota constituency.
* Telangana: Congress has submitted a letter to the chief electoral officer requesting counting of VVPAT papers in all the assembly segments of the state. Telangana Congress has raised suspicions that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been manipulated in the state.
* In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is leading on 111 seats and Congress on 108 seats while other parties are leading on 11 seats, according to the EC trends.
* In Madhya Pradesh, NOTA has so far bagged 1.5 lakh votes, which is roughly 1.5% of the total votes counted.
* Trends at 1 pm: In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is inching ahead of Congress. In Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Congress is leading as of now, according to the trends. TRS, MNF are heading for a clear win in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively.
* In Chhattisgarh, chief minister Raman Singh is leading by a margin of 1,200 votes in Rajnandgaon assembly constituency. Congress has established a lead in nearly 65 constituencies.
* In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is giving Congress a tough fight as both parties are locked in a seesaw battle.
* In Mizoram, chief minister Lal Thanhawla has lost from both seats – Serchhip and Champhai (South).
* In Chhattisgarh, former CM and Janata Congress leader Ajit Jogi is ahead of his rival by 10,543 votes in Marwahi (ST).
* Trends at 12 pm: BJP and Congress are locked in a close contest in Madhya Pradesh. In Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Congress is ahead of the BJP. TRS, MNF are heading for a clear win in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively.
* In Chhattisgarh, Janata Congress candidate Renu Jogi, wife of former CM Ajit Jogi, is leading in Kota by 1,171 votes.
* Trends at 11:30 am: Congress crosses the majority mark in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and is set for a big win in Chhattisgarh. TRS is all set to retain Telangana while MNF will wrest Mizoram from Congress.
* In Mizoram, chief minister Lal Thanhawla lost from Champhai South seat and MNF’s TJ Lalnuntluanga has won. Thanhawla is contesting from one more seat, where he is also trailing.
* Trends at 11 am: In Madhya Pradesh, trends are showing that the Congress has reached the majority mark while CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has increased the lead, ahead of rival Congress leader Arun Yadav by 4,000 votes in Budhni. In Rajasthan, Congress is ahead of the BJP as Sachin Pilot takes the lead in Tonk. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is taking a lead over the ruling BJP. TRS, MNF are heading for a clear win in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively.
* In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is ahead of his rival Congress leader Arun Yadav by 4,000 votes in Budhni.
* In Chhattisgarh, former CM Ajit Jogi is regaining the lead and is now ahead by 5,000 votes in Marwahi (ST).
* In Rajasthan, CM Vasundhara Raje leads Congress’s Manvendra Singh by 9,296 votes in Jhalrapatan after round 4 of counting.
* Trends at 10:30 am: Congress is gaining an edge over the BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In Rajasthan, it is a close fight between the main two political parties – Congress and BJP. TRS, MNF are heading for a clear win in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is ahead of the BJP.
* In Chhattisgarh, Ajit Jogi’s daughter-in-law Richa Jogi (BSP) is leading in Akaltara constituency.
* Hyderabad: AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi wins from Chandrayan Gutta constituency of Telangana.
* Trends at 10 am: It is turning out to be a close fight between BJP and Congress in Madhya Pradesh. In Rajasthan, Congress is still ahead of the BJP. TRS and MNF are heading for a victory in Telangana and Mizoram, respectively. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is ahead of the BJP and CM Dr Raman Singh is trailing from Rajnandgaon.
* In Rajasthan, CM Vasundhara Raje is leading by 4055 votes from Jhalrapatan, Congress’ Ashok Gehlot leading by 5112 votes from Sardarpura.
* Chhattisgarh: Former chief minister Ajit Jogi is trailing in Marwahi by about 2,100 votes.
* Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is leading in Budhni. The senior BJP leader is fighting against Congress candidate Arun Yadav, a former minister.
Trends at 9:30 am: In Telangana, TRS is dominating with a vote share of 50.3%, followed by Congress with a vote share of 8.9%. In Madhya Pradesh, it is turning out to be a close contest between BJP and the Congress; Congress+ is ahead in 52 seats and BJP is leading in 49. In Rajasthan, Congress is taking a strong lead. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is ahead of the BJP that has been in power for 15 years now and CM Dr Raman Singh is trailing from Rajnandgaon. In Mizoram, MNF is ahead in 16 seats while Congress is leading in 13. BJP+ is ahead in 2 constituencies in the state.
* As per early trends, Chhattisgarh chief minister Dr Raman Singh is trailing from Rajnandgaon, Congress’s Karuna Shukla is leading in the constituency.
Trends at 9 am: Neck and neck in Telangana, so far; TRS is leading in 50 seats and Congress-led alliance in 33 seats. In Rajasthan, Congress is taking a strong lead, as per the early trends. Congress is ahead in 43 seats, while BJP is leading in 28 constituencies. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP and the Congress are neck and neck while Shivraj Singh Chouhan is leading in his constituency. In Chhattisgarh, Congress is ahead in 17 seats. In Mizoram, MNF ahead in 16 seats, Congress in 11 seats.
* For the Rajasthan assembly elections results, the counting will take place at 35 centres. Voting for 199 of the total 200 assembly seats in the state took place on December 7. In 2013 assembly election, BJP had won 163 seats, Congress 21, BSP 3, NPP 4 and independents and others 9 seats.
* For the Madhya Pradesh results, 15,000 officers and workers will be put on duty for the task. In order to ensure transparency, the EVM machines which did not give clear results due to malfunctioning during mock polls will be taken out in the last round and the results will be tallied with the VVPAT slips. As many as 2,899 candidates were in the fray including 250 women and five third gender candidates.
* In Chhattisgarh, tight security arrangements have been made at the counting centres in all 27 districts, particularly the Naxal-affected ones, to elect a new 90-member Assembly. As many as 5,184 counting personnel and 1,500 micro-observers have been appointed for smooth conduct of the process. In the 2013 elections, the BJP won 49 seats, the Congress 39, while one seat each was bagged by the BSP and an Independent.
For the Telangana results, security has been tightened to ensure smooth conduct of the counting process in all the districts. Telangana assembly has 119 seats with 60 being the majority mark. In 2014 assembly election, TRS won 63 seats while the Congress stood second with 21 seats; AIMIM secured seven while the BJP won five and its then alliance partner TDP won 15 seats.
Congress formed the government in the state by winning 29 seats. The Congress and the MNF have ruled Mizoram since 1987. The BJP also has set its eyes on the state this time as all other northeastern states are now ruled either by the saffron party or others supported by it.
