It is said to be the heaviest snowfall in recent years in the plains of Kashmir. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir recorded two feet of fresh snow. Pahalgam in South Kashmir received about 40 cm of snow and the minimum temperature dipped to minus 2.8 degrees Celsius there. Srinagar also recorded 10 inches of snowfall till 8.30am today.
Connectivity to the valley was disrupted due to heavy snowfall which threw life out of gear in Srinagar. Kashmir was cut off from the rest of the country on Saturday. Most places in Kashmir, including plains of the valley, received moderate to heavy snowfall overnight, officials of the MeT Department said.
Most of the areas of the valley have also been devoid of electricity since last night, said the officials. Even air traffic has not been possible at the Srinagar airport. Flights have been cancelled due to poor visibility in the heavy snowfall.
