India defeated Australia by 31 runs in the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series here on Monday. Chasing 323, Australia was all out for 291 in 119.5 overs on the final day at the Adelaide Oval. The victory was India’s first series-opening win on Australian soil and first in the country since Anil Kumble’s team defeated Ricky Ponting’s side in Perth in 2008. Cheteshwar Pujara was the man of the match for his 16th Test century(123 runs) in first innings and 71 runs in second innings.
