French, Language, Education, Foreign

Globalized foreign languages are not the easiest to master. In fact, in order to prove that one has achieved a certain level of proficiency in the same, an individual must pass a specific exam to provide a certificate for the same. While there are three major exams to qualify oneself to be proficient in French, including DELF, DALF and DILF, in this blog we will specifically focus on the DELF examination. If you happen to master this language to specifically utilise it for the sake of your career or maybe for your higher studies, then you will be asked to produce evidence for the same. Such official examinations help in creating the required evidence.

Let’s now understand what DALF or Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Français is all about.

Firstly, DALF and DELF always go hand in hand with one another. DELF consists of levels ranging from A1 to B2 and DALF consists of only two levels which are C1 and C2. DALF is exceptionally important to prove the complete proficiency of an individual in French but the same cannot be attempted without passing all the DELF examinations first.

Along with DELF, this is the only non-native proficiency test.

So if you are wondering what is DALF, lets move ahead. DALF is an examination which is held by the French Ministry of Education in collaboration with the CEIP or the Centre International d’études pédagogiques. It is the examination along with DELF which helps provide proficiency certificates to non-native French speakers. This certificate is valid for a lifetime, meaning once cleared the same, the individual would never have to re-attempt the same.

There are two levels within the DALF: C1 and C2. They are also known as the  most advanced French Language Proficiency diplomas. As a result, the DALF is divided into two independent diplomas, each of which corresponds to two levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

How does this system work?

Exam, Teacher, Board, Chalkboard

While the DELF examination is undoubtedly an excellent choice, it is incomplete without the DALF examination that are focused towards proficiency in the language for an adult audience, This is because DELF examination only focuses and provides for students between levels A1 to B2. (A1, A2, B1, B2)  while DALF provides French language proficiency testing for C1 & C2 .

Where is it held?

The DELF examination is held all across India by Alliance Française. DELF is conducted in the following important metropolitan cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Indore, Bhopal, Mumbai, Pune, Panjim, Bangalore, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Pondicherry, Mysore, Mangalore, Trichy, and Trivandrum.
