JLPT Exam India 2022, Dates, Centres

Japan, Gate, Shrine, Torii

Spoken by over 128 million speakers across the globe, Japanese is considered to be one of the most widespread and influential languages in the world. In fact, a majority of the languages’ popularity can be easily attributed to the vast and beautiful culture of Japan as well as their entertainment industry, in specific their ‘anime’ industry. When considering the languages’ past, little can be found in regards to the same but many are lead to believe that it might have some connection with Chinese.

Now, when it comes to such a beautiful language, there is no doubt that many students across the globe strive to master it, to utilise it in the future. Especially those who wish to either pursue their higher education in Japan or maybe even settle there. Japanese is an amazingly useful language in the global market and therefore a great asset for anyone looking for an advantage in the same. With that said, one must prove their proficiency in the same and this can be done by attempting and passing the JLPT.

Let’s now understand what JLPT - Japanese Language Proficiency Test is all about.

Exam, Teacher, Board, Chalkboard

Japanese-Language Proficiency Test or JLPT is the officially standardised criteria based test meant to help the non-native Japanese speakers prove their Japanese proficiency. JLPT certifications are valid for a lifetime. With that said, there are five different levels to clear and are considered to be rather tough to clear.

The system in JLPT works much differently than the average CEFRL system. While there are a total of five different levels, the highest proficiency level is N1 and the lowest is N5. Hence, students start their journey from N5 and make their way to N1. The JLPT test is a 180 marks worth two tier exam which is divided into 60 and 120 marks exams. The first tier has 2 levels: N4 worth 120 marks and N5 worth 60 marks, the second tier includes N1,N2 and N3, each worth 60 marks. In order to pass, you must score a minimum of 19 on 60 and 38 on 120.
