French, Language, Education, Foreign

French or the language of love is considered to be one of the most commonly spoken languages right after English. In fact, it is the only language which is taught in every country of the world apart from English itself. French is also known as the language of globalisation as it found its popularity in the growing global market and became a key point for competitive advantage.

With this growth in popularity, it became increasingly important for certifications for the same. Every year, thousands of students aspire to earn a diploma in their proficiency in the globalized language. With that said, the existing DELF/DALF system is always seen as a complicated one as it follows six different levels of examinations. In the light of such an issue, a new certification was introduced known as TEF.

Let’s now understand what TEF or Test d’Evaluation de Français is all about.

TEF or Test d’Evaluation de Français is simply a single test which ultimately determines your proficiency in the French language depending upon the overall score you procure. This is one of the most important examinations for French in the current era. It was particularly introduced by the French Ministry of National Education in 2004 and is meant for those aspiring international students who wish to take up undergraduate courses in French Universities.

How does this system work?

Exam, Teacher, Board, Chalkboard

TEF is a single exam which focuses on testing your spoken and written abilities in French. The CCI Paris Ile-de-France awards the TEF as an international reference test. The Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) assesses your knowledge and skills in the French language. The language consists of four major aspects, which are Oral comprehension, Vocabulary and Syntax, Written comprehension and finally, Written expression. The Canadian Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship has officially recognized TEF.

There are two major TEF examinations, these are:

Passport, Canada, Document

  1. TEF Naturalisation

This examination is particularly meant for those individuals who wish to eventually become French citizens. This certification is recognised and accepted by the French Ministry for any foreigner.

Migration, Integration, Migrants, Merge

      2. TEF Carte de resident

This examination is specifically mandatory for individuals hoping to obtain a resident card from the French Government by verifying your proficiency in A2 level French.
