French, Language, Education, Foreign

After English, French, or the language of love, is considered one of the most widely spoken languages. Apart from English, it is the only language that is taught in every country on the planet. Because of its prominence in the developing global market, French is also known as the language of globalization. It has become a significant factor for competitive advantage.

With this rise in popularity, certificates for the same become increasingly crucial. Thousands of students desire to receive a credential demonstrating their competency in a worldwide language every year. As a result, the present DELF/DALF system is usually perceived as difficult, as it consists of six tiers of tests. TEF, a new certification, was created in response to such a problem.

Let’s now understand what TEF(Canada and Quebec) or Test d’Evaluation de Français (Canada and Quebec) is all about.

Exam, Teacher, Board, Chalkboard

TEF is for Test d’Evaluation de Français, and it is a single test that measures your competency in the French language based on your total score. This is one of the most essential exams for French students in today’s world. It was created in 2004 by the French Ministry of National Education and is intended for overseas students who aspire to pursue undergraduate studies in French universities.

TEF is a single exam that assesses your ability to communicate in French both orally and in writing. Oral understanding, vocabulary and syntax, written comprehension, and written expression are the four major characteristics of the language.

What types of Certifications does it provide?

There are two major types of TEF examinations which are specifically curated for those who wish to gain access to Canada or Quebec. These are:

  1. TEF Canada

This is an examination that earns you brownie points through passing the same. It is specifically important for those who wish to gain Canadian Citizenship as it evaluates the individuals who would fall within their economic immigration programme.

        2. TEF Quebec

TEFAQ or Test d’Evaluation du Français adapté pour le Québec is meant for those individuals who wish to immigrate to Quebec as this region does not utilise the TEF Canada certification.

Where and when are they conducted?

Both exams are held in cities around India, including Bhopal, Delhi, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Mumbai. That being stated, the TEF centres do not remain the same year after year and change. Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bhopal are the TEF centres for 2022.
