Introduction:
Spanish is one of the top official languages in the US. Thanks to the new phrase in our life ‘work from home’. The boundaries of having a career abroad sitting right in the comfort zone of your home- is not a big deal anymore. Fluency in Spanish will make your career options broader starting from, translation, journalism, interpretation, International services, tourism, and the list is endless. If you have 6 months in your hand and you are ready to put in dedicated hours, I can see bright chances for you to understand Spanish.
Now let’s see how?
Invest into a trainer- Before plunging into learning Spanish, it is very important to ask yourself the purpose of your learning. If it is your career, then it would be great to invest in an online trainer, to motivate you and help you to achieve fluency in six months. Multibhashi– happens to be the ed-tech platform, where you can not only hire a professional trainer for Spanish but also get a demo of the trainer you are planning to choose. Multibhashi maintains transparency by sharing with you the material which will serve your requirement to learn Spanish Grammar as well as speaking skills and it remains with you throughout. You also get to practice with your trainer, along with the session recordings. A trainer’s role is especially important when you will be dealing with colleagues and superiors as you should put your best foot forward and hence, I call it an investment.
Be a part of an online community- Now if you are not ready to commit money, then you may join an online community. Personally, I am not a fan of social media; however, I can’t deny the fact that learning has become so approachable and diverse because of it. Recently one of my friends suggested me to join a Facebook community, where I can not only get in touch with native Spanish speakers but a whole lot of info on the recent trends as well. I would like to suggest that if you are a working professional with a stressful job, join a community like this and you may immediately start chatting in Spanish, without spending a dime!
YouTube videos and Spanish music- Start watching ‘Butterfly Spanish videos’ along with ‘Culture Ally’, which have amazing videos on Spanish. They teach Spanish from scratch and also you may notice ‘sentence-building skills’ through them. Entertainment makes learning easier and Amazon music has this wonderful facility where you can actually read the lyrics of the Spanish songs that you wish to listen to. Along with this, you can start watching Spanish movies on Netflix along with English subtitles. Initially try not to follow word by word however after every 15 mins try to pause and check whether you are able to get the gist.
Enhancing Vocabulary- Once my son started learning Spanish, we both started labeling all the furniture with Spanish names. In fact, if you are a foodie like me and you can start writing the list of grocery items with Spanish words. You may also start following a Spanish food channel. Once you start picking up then you can move to the next target in writing these names in Spanish alphabets. One word of caution would be, do not exceed more than 5 words per day, otherwise, you may feel overwhelmed. At the end of the week ‘revision’ is equally important.
Conclusion:
One daring step which a lot of my friends have attempted is that changing the language of the laptop or smartphone in Spanish. In fact, this step can add brownie points as you will immediately get to know the Spanish terms related to your work. Recently a report published by British Council asserted that it is the most important second language for British citizens to learn. It is further predicted that by 2060, America will have the largest Spanish-speaking citizens. All I can say-such an impactful language can be acquired through persistent practice and obedience to the above tips in a span of 6 months. Happy learning!!
