How easy is it to learn French?

French is a global language as recognized by the United Nations and a very influential language as it is a language of culture, including art, cuisine, dance, and fashion. This would make French one of the easiest languages learn for an English speaker. On the other hand, if an individual is a non – English speaker, then they need to first identify their language in the 5 categories mention under the FSI, and then determine the proximity of their language to French. For example, a native Spanish speaker would find it much easier to master French than a native Arabic speaker. This is because Spanish is not only a romance language like French but it also falls within Category 1. This would mean Spanish has many uncanny similarities to French. On the other hand, Arabic falls within Category 5, which consists of those languages which are exceptionally difficult for native English speakers. Therefore, making it rather difficult for native Arabic speakers to master French as well.
