It is the official language in China, Singapore and Taiwan. It is also considered to be one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world. Should Mandarin be learned alongside B.Tech?
The simple answer to this question would be a no. The reason being that B.Tech in itself is a quite difficult course with all the mathematics, physics and chemistry involved. And in the same way Mandarin is also considered to be one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world. It is considered to be difficult due to its vastness which makes it very difficult to remember the thousands of characters and their individual sounds too. Managing two complex things at a time would feel very tedious as well as confuse you. And you might end up feeling that you are not doing justice to both of them and cannot devote your time equally between them. However, there can also be various reasons why you would want to learn Mandarin while pursuing B. Tech.
Pursuing a career in China
If you are someone who is planning to work in China right after your B. Tech, then it is crucial for you to learn Mandarin Chinese along with your B. Tech. so that you don’t have to waste time after your B.tech. It would be better if you could manage and pursue both at the same time.
Planning on doing your further studies in China
Since you are planning to pursue your masters or further studies from China, it also becomes crucial that you learn Mandarin to be able to study in China. And you wouldn’t want to wait for a year or two to learn Mandarin after you are done with your B.tech. It would be beneficial for you to learn it alongside your B. Tech degree. Although it would be quite a challenge to excel in both the things, it will be a great achievement.
You should not really stress yourself in learning Mandarin during your B.Tech but you can still learn it in some cases.
Learning Mandarin is a tedious process, however an achievement in itself.
