Best place to learn Chinese in India
Chinese is a group of language varieties that form the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages, spoken by the ethnic Han Chinese majority and many minority ethnic groups in Greater China. About 1.2 billion people (or approximately 16% of the world’s population) speak a variety of Chinese as their first language. The spoken varieties of Chinese are usually considered by native speakers to be variants of a single language. Due to their lack of mutual intelligibility, however, they are classified as separate languages in a family by some linguists, who note that the varieties are as divergent as the Romance languages.
Standard Chinese, based on the Beijing dialect of Mandarin, was adopted in the 1930s, is now an official language of both the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of China on Taiwan, one of the four official languages of Singapore, and one of the six official languages of the United Nations. The written form, using the logograms known as Chinese characters, is shared by literate speakers of unintelligible dialects. Since the 1950s, simplified Chinese characters have been promoted for use by the government of the People’s Republic of China, while traditional characters remain in use in Taiwan, Singapore and other countries with a significant amount of Chinese speaking populations such as Malaysia.
Mandarin is spoken by about 800 million speakers, or 66%, followed by Min 75 million, e.g. Southern Min, Wu 74 million, e.g. Shanghainese, and Yue 68 million, e.g. Cantonese. Mandarin Chinese is the language of government and education of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, with the notable exceptions of Hong Kong and Macau where a local dialect of Chinese called Cantonese is more often used.
Mandarin has been growing as the most learned language in the last decade.
Since opening up to foreign trade and investment and implementing free-market reforms in 1979, China has been among the world’s fastest-growing economies, growing at a pace described by the World Bank as “the fastest sustained expansion by a major economy in history.” Such growth has enabled China, on average, to double its GDP every eight years and helped raise an estimated 800 million people out of poverty. China has become the world’s largest economy (on a purchasing power parity basis), manufacturer, merchandise trader, and holder of foreign exchange reserves. This in turn has made China a major commercial partner of the United States. China is the largest U.S. merchandise trading partner, biggest source of imports, and third-largest U.S. export market. China is also the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasury securities, which help fund the federal debt and keep U.S. interest rates low.
Over the last 35 years, China has transformed itself to become arguably the largest global economy, with China’s boom and its status as a rising global superpower allowing Western Mandarin-speaking businessmen to thrive off the nations riches.
By opening up to the world, China welcomed foreign investment and economic cooperation. As a result, there is a massive demand for people who are able to bridge the gap between this new China and the greater world. By learning Chinese, you can transform yourself into somebody invaluable to the success of a project in China and demonstrate great intellectual capacity, besides getting exposed to a number of job opportunities such as translators and interpreters, content writer, proofreader, editor, researcher, teacher (nationally and internationally), etc and in international business, international agencies, tourism and hospitality industry, diplomatic services, post offices, and several MNC companies in India dealing with Chinese companies in the field of production, trade (import, export), BPO, call centres, etc. Chinese language skills open up just over 1.3 billion people across China!
