Why did you learn Korean as a foreign language? This is the question that probably popped up at you when you decided or started learning Korean. People might just be curious to know because Korean is not very popular or most chosen when it comes to learning a second or a foreign language. However, there are many advantages to learning this language and I have given a few that many Korean language learners found to be very motivating.

Well for several reasons!

 

Korean is not really very difficult

When learning a new language, difficulty level is something which many people would consider. The first glance at Korean may leave you baffled and you might want to run away from it. However, a close look would help you understand that it takes the same effort as learning any new language would. In fact, the Korean alphabet Hangul is considered to be a very easy one that can be learned in a day. Unlike many other languages, this alphabet did not evolve slowly, but was designed by experts under the rule of King Sejong who wanted an easy to learn alphabet. It is also a very phonetic language, which means you say what you write. Of course, the difficulty level would vary from one person to another depending on what their native language is, but Korean can still be a challenge that is definitely achievable.

Can be an advantage for your career

Internationally South Korea is playing a major role politically, economically and even in terms of technological advancements. If you are ambitious and would like to be a part of the bigger picture and work in an international atmosphere, learning Korean can be helpful. You can climb the ladder of success faster with proficient Korean language skills combined with other skills necessary for the job or position.

Connecting with your roots

There are many Koreans who have moved to other parts of the world and this has created the need for the younger generations to learn about their culture and language.  Learning Korean language can be the best choice when it comes to learning the Korean culture.

Many others cite reasons like travel, interest in K-Pop or K-drama, or the ability to connect with more than 75 million people who speak Korean to learn Korean as a foreign language.

Also, learning a new language need not always be associated with some tangible goals. There could be many other reasons like your love for learning a new skill especially a less popular one or your curiosity for learning something unusual.

Learning a new language always takes a lot of time and effort and if you are not sure about a good reason to start with chances are you might leave it before even getting a stronghold on the language. Thus, finding a good reason that helps you stay motivated throughout your journey of learning is very important.

Don’t join the bandwagon of learning Korean just because others are doing it. Find a good reason that is personally motivating for you and find reliable learning resources that would help you stay on track during your learning process and you definitely can learn this beautiful language.
