How difficult is it to learn Kannada for an Indian?
Learning Kannada is a rewarding and fascinating experience. But sometimes it will be the most challenging thing that can be found on good learning resources and with practising the opportunities. Learning Kannada is not so tough.
How difficult is it to learn Kannada for an Indian?
Many people in India consider Kannada to be in line with their Category III languages, meaning it would sit alongside Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and Hindi.
If you intensively study a Category III language for 25 hours a week, you would reach professional working proficiency after 44 weeks, or roughly 10 months.
So if you are considering an intensive course, “professional working proficiency” is a pretty vague description compared to both the B2 and C1 CEFR levels.
To get B2/C1 level ten months is not really bad, but most of us would not be able to study for 25 hours a week. So to answer the question of how difficult is Kannada for an Indian and how long will it take you to learn it depends on the knowledge in the language, how interested you are to learn it and the source of studying the language.
If you already speak any Indian languages, for example, Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil or if you get to use Kannada every day in your life then you will find an easier way to pick up the language bit quicker.
But if you only speak English and rarely get to speak Kannada outside of your classroom or dedicated studies then you will find yourself to be forced to learn the language and it will be difficult for you. So in this case you need to review your notes more frequently, do additional exercises and want to actively seek practice opportunities.
But do not get discouraged by the idea that it might be difficult. Keep in mind that learning a new language is fascinating, fun, and incredibly rewarding. Focus on what you can do rather than what you cannot achieve.
Have at least a 45-minute conversation, read a short story, newspaper article, or a book, keep a diary, listen to a podcast and sing along to a song to learn the language easily. Learning Kannada does not seem quite so challenging.
Learning Kannada will be difficult if you try to learn it by Grammar when you speak and converse with people as many languages in India for each dialect varies from place to place. Kannada will be easier to speak and you can add many known English words in between which is really normal.
Learning and speaking will be hard because it’s Rich, unlike other languages. It has many alphabets and it compromises on expressing when it gives in unknown matched ways in poetry or prose.
