Introduction:

In this blog, I will be giving you some suggestions on how to get better or improve yourself at Korean after learning the basics of Korean. If you have learnt the basic part by yourself then I would advise you to take up an online/offline course whichever is suitable for you for further progress. And if you have already pursued a course for the basic itself, then my recommendation would be to continue the course for further levels. Along with taking up the course for further progress, I would suggest you follow the points that I am mentioning below.

• Learning Hangul

Hope that you have learned Hangul – the Korean alphabet while learning the basic of Korean. If not then I would definitely advise you to learn this as soon as possible. In the beginning, you may find it a bit difficult, but trust me once you understand the logic and simplicity behind its systematic creation, you will master the entire alphabet in no time! Hangul is a magical alphabet because the letters are highly symbolic. Once you learn Hangul you will require to keep on practicing to avoid forgetting. 

• Keep on Increasing your vocabulary

After you have finished learning the basic of Korean, hope you have stocked a good number of words. But do not stop it there. Keep on searching for new words daily and keep on adding them to your vocabulary list. There is no end to learning new words. And it is always a plus point to have a huge word stock in your grip, this will help you to stammer or fumble less while you are speaking or writing in Korean. And also it will help you to progress a lot. 

• Keep on practicing to use the vocabulary

Only having a huge word stock in your grip will not help, you need to know the use of those words. Try to frame different sentences on different topics with those words. You can even assume different situations and practice talking about the situations. Take the help of your mentor if you face any problem. Once you know the use of the vocabulary you have in your stock you will be able to speak in Korean in different situations. 

• Focus on the verbs and practice them

After learning the basic part, now the time has come to focus on the verbs and practice them for further progress. Take the help of your mentor to master the verb part, as it is the most essential part of learning a language. Always aim for consistent small steps which you can easily complete, such that daily progress feels manageable. Don’t try to grab up a huge part at a time, this will surely demotivate you, which is not at all a good sign. 

• Engage in a lot of conversation

The best way to master the Korean language is to engage in conversations. Find a Korean language partner or native Korean speakers and speak with them regularly, tell them to correct your mistakes, don’t hesitate to make a mistake, you will surely learn from your mistakes. 

• Read Korean contents and books

After learning the basics, try to read out small content in Korean. Read small stories in Korean to improve your reading skills.

• Watch Korean movies, listen to Korean songs

Watch Korean movies with and without subtitles. See if you can understand all the dialogues even without the subtitles or not. Listen to Korean songs, podcasts, radio regularly for improving your listening skills.
