Introduction:
Hindi is a very commonly spoken language. Often learners first learn to speak it and then learn to write and read in it. Because it is such a commonly used language, people acquire it from their surroundings without even actually learning it and in cases where it is not even their mother tongue or native language. The problems learners face is when they cannot read or write in Hindi and also make mistakes with the grammar and syntax. However it is not impossible to learn it on your own because hindi is not one of the most difficult languages.
How can you do it?
-
Learn the Alphabet
If you are a complete beginner and Hindi is not your mother tongue, then the first thing you will have to do is to introduce yourself to the devnagri script. If you already know any other language that is also written in devnagri script then it will not be difficult for you to learn and familiarise yourself with the Hindi alphabet. Anyway, the Hindi alphabet is not difficult; you can easily learn and remember it. The task of learning the alphabet becomes, even more, easier if you know how to speak Hindi.
-
Learn the pronunciations and vowel and consonant sounds
While learning a language it is important to start right from the beginning in order to master the language. While learning Hindi also you must learn the sounds of each vowel and consonant to be able to talk or read in Hindi fluently. Even if these look similar to any of the languages that you know, you must note that pronunciation changes in every language even if the script used is the same. Learn and practice that well.
-
Write it all
Maintain a journal from the very beginning and start noting things down whenever you come across a new word, a new grammar rule, a new phrase, a new proverb. Anything new just writes it down. Writing it down will ensure that you remember it for a longer time, plus even if you forget you will always have the advantage of just turning a few pages and finding it. Writing will also help you in practicing the letters and words and their spellings. That is also very essential while learning a language.
-
Learn Grammar
After you have mastered the pronunciation and vocabulary, another very important part is the Grammar of the language. It is important to understand and remember all the grammatical do’s and don’ts properly. This will help you form sentences correctly and communicate effectively. It will also help you to understand what the other person is trying to say or whatever you read. Incorrect grammar can alter the entire meaning of the sentence. Hence it is important to learn it well as well as practice it thoroughly.
-
Make it fun
Try making your learning process as much fun as you can. That way you will not be bored of learning it. Indulge in movies and TV shows. This will keep you entertained as well as teach you new words, their pronunciations, and how to effectively start and continue the dialogue in the language. Moreover, you will be learning a lot of things very easily without even noticing it. This happens because our brain acquires knowledge from our surroundings. Listening to Hindi music, audiobooks and podcasts, and online classes will also help you in learning it.
